Undoubtedly the two most famous Alien movies ever made, the question who is better has always been on my mind and I’m sure other peoples. Now Rebellion has brought the two species together, including one species that has appeared in both….. humans.

You get the chance to play through the story mode with all three species, all with their own style of play. The Marine story is probably the least exciting of the three, with the standard we are all used to in shooters which take on aliens.

The marine campaign is by far the least exciting and engaging compared to the Aliens and the Predator campaigns. While I was playing as the marine I got the sense that they were saving the best gameplay for the other campaigns, and rightly so it’s hard to create an engaging single player human campaign when you have got E.T that can do so much more.

The Marine campaign does recreate the paranoid scared factor you will get walking along a disserted spaceship. You get a beeping tracker that tells you when an alien is near and it does help create the scare factor, and is a great idea for the game.

This brings us to the Predator campaign that has a lot more toys to play with; we get camouflage, thermal sight, plasma gun and a huge blade. You can also leap huge differences which run’s very smoothly.

Stealth plays quite a big part in the Predator campaign, and is a welcome variety to the Marine campaign. It plays out well and gives you a great sneaking satisfaction, when you kill the guy without them able to even think about what just happened.

The Predator storyline is not the most amazing storyline but it does enough to keep you interested, during the Predator campaign I found myself shutting my brain of, and just enjoying the killing spree that ensues.

Now we get to the Aliens story another stealthy campaign where you get the chance to run up and down walls and hang above your enemies. Your main weapons are melee weapons claws, teeth and tail; you can also use hissing sounds to distract your enemies along with breaking the lights.

Playing as the Alien you can also use air vents to sneak up on your enemies, with the ability to walk up the walls and ceiling is one of Aliens most awesome weapon, this can take some time getting used to as the camera automatically corrects itself to the right view.

Each campaign will last you only a couple of hours, we would have liked more gameplay time. The game should take 10-12 hours to complete, you can also replay to collect the items throughout the game. What Rebellion has added though is multiplayer which adds longevity to the game.

The multiplayer comes with different game mode types including straight deathmatch, Survival mode Domination game, Infection and Predator Hunt. The multiplayer modes are fast paced and hectic at sometimes, a contrast to the story mode.

Aliens vs. Predator gives you everything you would expect from the game, all the Alien & Predators traits are included and executed almost perfect all the time. The marine campaign does lack the same fluent gameplay as the Predator and Alien campaigns. The multiplayer will keep you playing for many hours and the chance to hunt marines down as Predator and co-op with your mates is a perfect way to waste some hours.

Score

7.5/10
