The Saboteur Review
One thing I have noticed about Saboteur is how its split people opinions, people who like it and who those who don’t. I am in the first camp and really enjoyed The Saboteur.
The game is set in France during the WWII and Nazi’s have taken control of Paris, you play as Sean Devlin a no-nonsense guy who is portrayed as a stereotypical Irish man who likes to drink beer and have a fight (kinda like this guy). This is an attitude we liked in Sean and it made for some great one liners, sadly though the voice acting let him down as it did for the rest of the characters.
The other characters don’t really develop much during the game, which makes you feel nothing if one of them gets bumped off. The area in which you get to play the game in is really huge, you get the whole of Paris to drive around in. Players of GTA and Godfather will immediately recognise the scenario, mini map at the bottom of the screen and names of people to go and see to complete missions.
The missions do offer some variety but not much they involve blowing up certain targets, rescuing prisoners and being a wheelman. There are also quite a lot of side missions to complete by blowing up certain Nazi targets, and in return getting the game’s currency which is contraband. The contraband can be used to buy weapons, dynamite or to upgrade the resistance and get key targets on your map. The game will take between 12-18 hours to complete and then some extra hours for the side missions.
Let’s get to the story we know you play as Sean a mechanic and racing car driver who has raced around the world before the war, your enemy also a racing driver called Dierker who just happens to be a Nazi. War breaks out and your enemy soon comes back to haunt you killing your best friend. Its Viva La Resistance from then on.
The story is probably not the most inspiring and grasping but it just about does enough to keep the game moving along nicely. The graphics are really enjoyable, during the game most parts of the city will be in black & white, these are the areas under Nazi control complete missions in this area and it will suddenly burst into an array of colour. The black & white really looks slick and along with the music gives it that 1940s feel, driving through colour and b&w is a seamless transition.
The animations are a bit sketchy throughout the game, during the normal cut scenes the characters seem wooden, folding their arms every now and again. The climbing is also a bit clunky Sean seems to move really slowly up the buildings, we have also climbed back up ledges we wanted to climb down before the camera pans round and recognises we want to drop down.
The Saboteur is a good game to play it might not be the most enthralling experience you’ve had playing this type of game but there is enough there. This game is going to go on taste, some people will hate it others will like it, but there isn’t a game like it out though and the moment. You could defiantly waste a whole day playing The Saboteur.

Can’t wait to get this! I can feel a pretend heart attack coming so I can stay home from Uni and mess around playing this.
